Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) & Support

Backyard Ultra Timer

TECHNICAL & BATTERY SAVING

1. Why did the timer stop during the race when the screen was off? Android devices (especially Samsung, Xiaomi, and Huawei) have aggressive battery-saving features that may close background apps. To prevent this:

  • Go to your phone settings: Settings > Apps > UltraYardTimer > Battery.

  • Select "Unrestricted" or disable "Battery Optimization".

  • Note: For step-by-step guides tailored to your specific phone brand, visit dontkillmyapp.com

2. Will the battery drain fast if the screen is always on? The app is designed to run in the background with the screen turned off, provided you have adjusted the battery optimization settings mentioned above. Keeping the screen off saves significant battery life during long races. Audio cues will keep you informed of the race status.

GAME MODES

3. How does the Backyard Ultra mode work? Backyard Ultra follows the official race format. The timer starts at 60 minutes and counts down to zero. When time runs out, a new 60-minute loop starts automatically, and your completed lap count increases by one.

4. How does the Frontyard Ultra mode work? In Frontyard Ultra, the lap time decreases as the race progresses. The first lap is 30 minutes. Each subsequent lap is exactly one minute shorter (Lap 2 is 29 min, Lap 3 is 28 min, etc.), forcing you to increase your pace as you get more fatigued.

5. How does the Custom Timer work? The Custom mode is a versatile training tool. You can define your own "Work Time" and an optional "Rest Time". You can also set a target number of laps (e.g., 10 laps) or set it to zero (0) for an infinite timer.

AUDIO & FEATURES

6. What do the different audio alerts mean? The audio alerts help you track time without looking at the screen. They also play over your music or podcasts:

  • 5 min and 4 min before start: "Gong" sound (Wake-up call, time to move to the starting corral)
  • 3 min, 2 min, and 1 min before start: Chimes ring according to the remaining minutes
  • 0 min (Start): Starting gun sound

7. Can I switch between Kilometers and Miles? Yes. In the timer view, open the settings (gear icon) in the bottom right corner and tap "Switch to Miles" or "Switch to Kilometers"

PRICING & PRO VERSION

10. What is the difference between the Free and PRO versions? The free version allows you to test all game modes, but they are limited to two (2) full laps per session.

11. Is the PRO version a subscription? No. The PRO version is a one-time purchase. Once you buy it, it is yours forever.

12. I bought PRO, but the app is still locked. What should I do? Open any locked game mode to display the "Unlock Unlimited" window (Paywall). Tap the "Restore Purchases" button at the bottom of the screen. The app will verify your purchase with Google Play and unlock the features immediately.
